BENEFITS OF RED LIGHT THERAPY
Benefits of Red Light Therapy
What Is Red Light Therapy & How Does It Work?
Red and near-infrared light therapy is the process of using medical-grade LED lights to deliver concentrated & specific wavelengths of light to our bodies. The cells in our bodies are able to absorb these specific wavelengths of light, using them to stimulate ATP production within the mitochondria which helps our cells produce more energy.
When our cells have more energy, they are able to perform their cellular functions more efficiently and effectively, which leads to the numerous benefits of red and near-infrared light therapy.
What Are The Benefits Of Red Light Therapy?
How Should I Use Red Light Therapy?
Each of our devices comes with a hanging kit consisting of a door mount, an adjustable pulley, hanging cables, an instruction card, and a user manual that will allow you to set up your device quickly and easily. The devices can also be used set on a hard surface like a table, countertop, or desk.
When it comes to light therapy, the dose is important. If the dose is too small, benefits are left on the table. If the dose is too great, the benefits are negated.
For skin and topical treatments, shoot for a dose between 3J and 10J per treatment area. For deep tissue treatments, shoot for a dose between 10J and 50J per treatment area. Try not to exceed a cumulative, total body dose of more than 120J in a day.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I figure out the dose that I need?
For skin and topical treatments, the recommended sweet spot of dosing for a given treatment area is roughly between 3 Joules and 10 Joules.
For deeper tissues, such as muscles, ligaments, or bone, the sweet spot for a given treatment area is between 10J and 50J of light.
Generally speaking, our panels deliver at least 5J of light per minute of use from 6 inches away.
If you back up farther away to 12 inches or 18 inches, the amount of time needed in front of the panel may increase but you are also treating a larger area at once.
The formula for calculating Joules is:
J= (Irradiance At A Given Distance) x (Treatment Time in Seconds) x (.001)
What is the EMF output of your devices?
All electric devices have some degree of electromagnetic field, due to the nature of their power source. The EMF output of our devices comes in at 0.0 µT at 6" (which is our recommended minimum treatment distance). This means that at 6" and beyond, you are receiving zero EMF exposure when doing a red light therapy treatment with our device.
Why do only half of the LEDs light up? Is my device broken?
The reason you only can see half of the LEDs illuminated is because the near infrared LEDs are outside of the visible spectrum of light for the human eye. So, you won't really be able to see the NIR lights when they're turned on. Most of our panels feature red and near infrared LEDs in a 1:1 ratio, meaning half of the LEDs are red and half are near infrared. You will not be able to see the near infrared, but rest assured they are on and working.
Can I use my red light therapy device in a sauna?
No, you should not operate your red light therapy device in a sauna. It is too hot for the components of the panel. We recommend either going in the sauna first, and then doing your red light therapy treatment or visa versa.
Will I get a tan from red light therapy?
No, there is no UVA or UVB light (the light that can burn your skin) emitted from our devices. You will NOT get a tan.
Can I wear makeup while doing my treatment?
Yes, you can. It won't hurt anything, however, red and near infrared light therapy works best on clean, bare skin.
Why does the light seem to change color as my treatment goes on?
This is just your eyes adjusting. You'll notice that when you first turn the lights on they appear very bright red, but as you do your treatment, your eyes adjust and the light will not appear quite as red. Do not worry. The LEDs are only capable of emitting red at 660 nanometers and near infrared at 850 nanometers.
Which red light device should I choose?
The device that's right for you really depends on your budget and how large of an area you're looking to treat at one time. Truth be told, you can treat everything you need to with our smallest panel, the HG300. With that being said, if you wanted to be more efficient and treat a larger area of your body in the same amount of time, you may stand to benefit from choosing a larger panels.
Also, if you think that in the future you may want to add multiple panels together to create one larger set up, you may be interested in the HGPRO series as it is modular and mobile stand compatible.
Is red light therapy safe? Has it been studied?
Red light therapy has been studied extensively and is proven to be effective by thousands of peer-reviewed medical studies and clinical trials. The studies have shown extremely positive results, and an almost total lack of side effects or health risks associated with it. We encourage our customers to do a search on PubMed for peer-reviewed medical studies and clinical trials regarding red and near infrared light therapy.
Why are your device so affordable relative to competitors?
We believe anyone should have access to the benefits of red and near infrared light therapy. We don't spend exorbitant amounts of money on advertising or celebrity endorsements. Instead, we keep our costs low and pass the savings along to our customers. We also eliminate unnecessary features that artificially drive up cost on the panels.
How do I use my device?
Easy! Just plug it in, turn both switches on, and let the red and near infrared light wavelengths shine on your body for somewhere between 2 and 15 minutes, depending on distance from the panel and your specific goals!
Do I need to wear eye protection?
We do recommend wearing eye protection when treating your face, although it may not be necessary. Our devices come with included eye protection goggles.
What is the difference between the HG and HGPRO series?
Our HGPRO series panels are mobile stand compatible and modular. This means they can be added together and attached to our mobile stand with included mounting brackets to create a custom red light therapy set up. Our HGPRO series also features dual chip LEDs which are able to deliver more power than the single chip LEDs in the HG series. HGPRO series is also flicker-free.
You can't go wrong with either series. The HG series is a great entry point to red light therapy, but it just can't be attached to a mobile stand or added to other panels to create a larger set up. The HG series, although less powerful than the HGPRO, is still an extremely powerful device that delivers high irradiance levels.

What's the difference between red and near-infrared light?
Both red and near infrared light are natural wavelengths of light which come from the sun and have been clinically proven to enhance cellular function.
The main difference is that red light at 660nm only penetrates the body up to a depth of about 5-10mm and may contribute greatly to improved skin health and collagen production. Near infrared light at 850nm is invisible to the human eye and penetrates deeper into the body, between 50mm and 75mm, providing energetic and anti-inflammatory benefits.
We recommend doing treatments with both switches turned on, as the combination is perfect and our irradiance measurements are based upon both wavelengths of light, not just one being turned on,
How often can I do my treatments?
You can do your red light therapy treatment daily. You can even do multiple treatments per day if you'd like.
Can red light therapy improve the quality of my sleep?
Yes, it can. Red light therapy does not interfere with melatonin production, in fact, it actually promotes melatonin production.
Can red light therapy help with arthritis?
Red light therapy can certainly help to reduce pain and swelling in inflamed joints caused by arthritis.
Can your products operate on 220V outside the US?
Yes
WHY HOOGA?
Why Hooga?
Hooga is a company that aims to revolutionize the healthcare industry by promoting healing from within and restoring the body's balance. Their goal is to make effective red light therapy devices available and affordable to the average person who experiences everyday health issues, without breaking the bank.
Hooga launched its red light therapy products after recognizing that most panels on the market are either too costly or lack power. They strongly believe that red light therapy should be accessible to everyone, not just those with deep pockets.
Their panels are produced in an FDA-approved facility and come with a 2-year warranty. These panels are highly powered, emitting significant levels of irradiance while having low levels of EMF output. They are also equipped with cooling fans to ensure safety. Furthermore, their devices are priced reasonably, as they aim to make red and near-infrared light therapy accessible to more people who deserve to experience its benefits.
